Second Lesson Plan Overview

Proposed Lesson Plan
After a discussion about the history of fashion and the elements that have affected it, the students will be expected to create a "virtual fashion show", using their own picture, or a picture of a model or a friend as the models. The students will look through historical books, fashion magazines, their text and fashion-related websites to find clothing from past time-periods up until now. The students will then scan these picture onto a computer and splice them together using Photo Shop, Photo Impressions, or other photo software. They will be expected to make their work look professional before organizing it into a slide show on Power Point. The students may look for either male or female fashions, but are expected to have at least one style from each of the periods we study in class. They will then choose their favorite time period to go into more depth.

Age level
This lesson plan is appropriate for students on the junior high and high school levels (probably most appropriate for high school students) who are taking a fashion strategy course.

Utah Core Curriculum Standard
Standard 20.0306-01 - Students will explore the fundamentals of fashion.

Technologies
*Scanner
*Some type of photo software
*Power Point

Example
I will create a Power Point presentation of my "virtual fashion show" of historical fashions. I will use my own head and find pictures from magazines, web-sites, fashion history texts, and other text books to ensure that I did the work. I will make the figures as professional looking as I can to ensure that any "buyers" of my "designer line" are satisfied.

Ethical Issue
This assignment would involve Fair Use of Intellectual Property and some Copyright issues because the students will be using pictures that are not their own. I will need to educate the students on what they can and cannot use in their assignment and where they can use it and display it. In some cases the students may need to get permission to use some of the material.
